How Malls are Taking Indian Tradition Away

The concept of shopping malls has overtaken the popularity of the bazaars that was the hallmark of Indian tradition. Shopping malls is basically a western concept but Indians simply love the mall mantra that has spread far and wide. Indians love shopping in the air-conditioned malls and saving time is the main objective of mall shopping…

bazaars We all know that Indian culture is colorful and markets, bazaars are the main essence of this, our tradition says shopping from different markets and shops but now people are not even thinking of that and looking more and malls around them.

“Shop until you drop” statement is now not applicable to people because they know they will have lots of fun entertainment, fast food, different services and other things will make their shopping enjoyable for them. Shopping is not paying and purchasing its much more than that in this modern age. When we look back to the history of India, we found that people were not so civilized and this mall concept was not even in their thought but copying western culture give them a thought to replace traditional markets with huge malls. Things are improving and not only metro cities but also small districts have huge malls for fun and entertainment.

Shopkeepers are now sitting idle and their work and employment are not as powerful as it was earlier, people prefer shopping malls rather going to a shop. All good are available in these multiplexes and now there is the close relation between consumers and malls.

Real estate is going higher with these malls and people fear to invest their money in small places where there is a lack of malls, every day a new mall open anywhere in the country. Our tradition was to shop in markets and bazaars where people enjoy shopping from one shop to another but now this is lost in a crowd of these shopping malls, and people are more comfortable with this modernization.

Fading Picture of Malls in India

Since the establishment of the first mall in Delhi in the late 90’s there has been no looking back. Indian consumers simply love the shopping experience at the malls because of the ultimate brand outlets, multiplexes and the enchanting food courts. However, today there is a whole different scene for the malls and the shopping complexes. As there came an era of an economic slowdown in India with the recession, the development in malls and multiplexes completely stood still.

Picture of Malls in India There have been various factors responsible for the fading picture of shopping malls in recent days like location, greed among the builders, poor designing, adverse commercial background, and so on. The design of skyscrapers has become extremely popular. The multistory shopping malls with a large number of stores are often found to be empty as the recession has affected the spending power of consumers. The designs of the shopping mall have been a dominant factor behind its failure and its losing popularity.

Furthermore, poor commercial arrangement of shops and invisible advertising are responsible for the fading picture of malls. A beautiful design and a better plan is a must for the malls. The arrangement of the shops and the decoration must be able to attract the consumers. Furthermore, it should have stores for small retailers to big brand names. Most of the malls are not having stores for the small retailers which are killing the markets of small companies.

It is essential that the malls must provide sufficient outlet stores for different brands to  satisfy different needs of the consumers. Variety of products and a variety of brands must be available in each product that provides a large number of options for the consumers.

Because of the new era with the development of online shopping people less prefers shopping in the malls as it saves time and variety of options with the most affordable price available at the fingertips. This development in e-shopping has affected the development of malls and shopping centers in India.
